"You'll love this perfect chocolicious little pound cake. It really fits the bill when you're having a chocolate attack and don't need a full size cake. Serve it with whipped cream and chocolate sauce... yum! This doubles very nicely when you need a little more but still don't need a big dessert. When doubling, don't double the baking soda, just leave it at 1/8 teaspoon."

ingredients

  • 14 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons sour cream
  • 18 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg, room temp
  • 12 teaspoon vanilla extract (or 1/4 tsp raspberry extract)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, room temp

directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour pan very well. I designed this to go in a petit loaf pan that measures about 5x3x2 but you can use 2 mini Bundts, 4 cupcake cups, 2 jumbo muffin cups or whatever small pan you like.
  • When doubled it works nicely with either a 6 cup Bundt pan, 5 inch spring form pan, 4 mini Bundt pans or 7x4x3 loaf pan.
  • Whisk together all of the flour, cocoa powder and sugar in small mixing bowl.
  • In another small bowl, whisk together sour cream and baking soda. Add egg and vanilla extract; gently whisk to combine.
  • Add the butter and 1/2 of the sour cream mixture to the flour mixture and mix with electric mixer until moistened. Beat on low for about 45 seconds.
  • Add remaining sour cream mixture and beat on medium until well blended, 30 seconds. Do not over mix or you'll ruin the texture. Pour into prepared pan or pans.
  • Bake until well browned and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 25 to 30 minutes for the petit loaf pan. When recipe is doubled, bake 40 minutes in the small loaf pan.
  • Baking times vary slightly depending on which pan you use. The important thing is that the cake is browned and toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center. Cool in pan 10 minutes on rack. Remove from pan and cool completely.

  1. My question about the flour above didn't sit right with me. I guess I'm used to seeing ingredients written: 1/4C flour, plus 2 Tbs. Anyway I went ahead and used "all" of the flour and the cake was wonderful. I doubled the recipe. Made the cake for my 40 something daughter's birthday and we ended our dinner with a delicious chocolate cake with non-dairy whipped cream! I also used plant butter and non-dairy sour cream as my daughter can't digest dairy products. Will definitely make this again! Love it

  2. This recipe says to add all flour, cocoa, etc into small bowl and whisk, etc. I assume that the 1/4 cup of flour was for coating the baking containers and the two tablespoons are for the whisking in with the cocoa, etc. Is this correct?

  1. Very good -- we made these in 4 tiny heart tins -- just enough without too much. Thanks for sharing!

  2. My husband loved these! I made these for a surprise treat into heart shaped cupcakes. I used Splenda, fat free sour cream & added 2 tbsp mini choc chips. He ate 2 of them (it made 4 small cupcakes) right away; he loved the soft texture. I personally think a little choc sauce/fat free whipped cream is needed; but that's just me! All in all--thank you!! I hope to make these again

  3. Holy chocolate fix, Batman. Fantastic and makes a perfect size. Mixed it a little different, the traditional sugar/butter/egg/ creaming and then adding dry ingredients. Did add an extra T cocoa, just 'cuz. Perfect pound cake texture with a rich chocolate punch. Made some strawberry shortcakes, totally over the top. Super yummy on it's own too! Thanks for a keeper!

I'm a full-time Realtor for Century 21 Graham Realty during the day and at night I'm a wife and mother of one 6 year old daughter, Angelina plus one small dorkie dog (dachshund-yorkie mix) named Petey. I love to cook and experiment with new recipes. I've been collecting cookbooks (I have a few hundred) and recipes for as long as I can remember. I like to buy recipe boxes at yard sales and auctions and peak through them for yummy recipe gems. I've found some really amazing recipes that way. I'm a huge fan of Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware. I've been collecting different pieces for a few years now. I always considered myself a great cook but these pans raise things to a whole new level.I'm planning to post all of my favorite recipes that I've collected over the years. I have all these clippings and pieces of paper and magazine clips that are everywhere. My recipe boxes are packed with these things and it's time to organize the whole mess. I suppose it will take years (did I say years?!?) to get them all posted but it's worth it. So keep checking back to my posts for new goodies. I can't wait to see what long lost gems turn up. I've already run across several of my old favs. Isn't it nice to have all your best recipes all organized right here? I've also been printing them out and putting them in a nice new binder where I can actually find them when I want to make them. I LOVE this site.I have found some of the best recipes EVER right here on 'Zaar. There are some fantastic cooks here and I just want to say "Thank you" to all of you who have made me look like the greatest cook on the planet with your wonderful recipes. I try to make as many new ones each week as I can. It's so much fun experimenting. My DH of 9 years is my guinea pig- he will eat ANYTHING I put in front of him. My little girl... well, she's more of a challenge to please. Not really picky but she doesn't really like meat or stuffing or peppers or mushrooms or.... oh, the new one is onions. I could go on but you get the idea. You probably have or had one just like her. They seem to learn all about these things that they don't like at school. All of the sudden...they don't like something they've been eating for 3 years because their friend "Alyssa" doesn't like it. What a challenge it is feeding these little creatures! That's her and Petey in the picture above.<img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r317/j_welcome/pics2/food/PRMRcopy.jpg"><img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e110/flower753/Food/soup_banner.jpg"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Recipezaar%20Album/iplaytagin.jpg"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/annacia/pt-shutterbug-banner-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/holidaybadge.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/potluckpbanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><img src="http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/7505/mybanner4a394ee84d5f0.jpg" ><img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/ZaarStar-AMBanner.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/Sharon123/Copyoftag300-banner.jpg" border="0" alt="Susie's Banner for Newest Zaar Tag"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/Animation6.gif"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Banners/holidayprmr.jpg"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Holiday-plaid_HPI.gif"> <img src="http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/dcmac/PAC%20Fall%2009/Image1.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Participation.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Iwasadopted.jpg"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/participantbannerzwt5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><IMG src ="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z205/jubespage/cupwitchanimation-small3.gif"> <img src ="http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u208/diner_photos/lazymecookathon.jpg"><img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/picwJT0Wr-1.jpg"><img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Banners/AMBadgeGenTP2009.jpg"><img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg">
