This refreshing Moscow mule recipe gets a kick of citrus with the addition of freshly squeezed orange juice. Is it 5 o'clock yet?
At a restaurant about 10 minutes from us, they appear to have a Moscow mule problem. Don't get me wrong - they make an awesome mule. However, it seems their clientele have sticky fingers, and the copper mugs that the mules are served in vanish faster than Vanilla Ice's music career. Each time you order a Moscow mule at the restaurant, you have to hand over your driver's license, which is kept in bartender purgatory until the copper mug is handed back at the end of the evening.
Considering how much people seem to covet the copper mugs, I expected them to be $50 apiece. It turns out these ones sell on Amazon for about $25 a set of four. I mean, come on, if you're going to swipe something from a restaurant, it should at least be diamond-encrusted. 🙂
I am not a soda drinker, but when it comes to Moscow mules, I'll make an exception for a splash of ginger beer. That being said, I wanted to cut down the proportion of ginger beer to make myself feel better about drinking one of these at happy hour. So, I replaced about half of the ginger beer with freshly squeezed orange juice. Any kind of orange will do, so take advantage of the sales on seasonal oranges right now. The brightness of the citrus is the perfect complement to the slightly spicy ginger beer.
If you don't have a set of copper mugs, no problem. A tall glass will work just as well!

Simple and delicious...tried this one a few times. I will say, when I started reading the recipe, I saw "4oz vodka" and thought "damn...no messin' around here" but then further down it mentions its for 2 people. LOL! Nice work Dara!

I love Moscow Mules (and yeah, that mug IS one of the best parts about them) - fresh orange sounds like a delicious, fresh addition. It's crazy that you have to actually hand over your driver's license!

Yum! I love Moscow Mules and this one looks super tasty with the orange juice. Fresh squeezed juice is the best in whatever you are drinking. So funny about the mugs at the restaurant.... What are people thinking?
