Football Charcuterie Board (3)

Instructions

This charcuterie board is built around a football shaped cheeseball. The cheeseball is actually quite easy to make, but you’ll want to allow for about 4 hours of chilling time.

To Make a Football Cheese Ball

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, or in a large bowl with a hand mixer, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, and spices until well blended.
  2. Stir in the bacon, jalapeños, green onions, and shredded cheese with a wooden spoon or spatula. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Take the chilled cream cheese mixture out of the fridge and scoop onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Use your hands to mold the cheese ball into a football shape, then wrap tightly with the plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours so the cheese ball will set and hold its shape.
  4. When the cheeseball has hardened enough to keep its shape, unwrap and carefully roll in chopped bacon until completely coated. You may need to press the bacon into the cheeseball so it stays in place. Use sour cream to draw laces on the football.

Prep Tips

  • When shaping the cheeseball, it can be helpful to coat your hands with oil or non-stick cooking spray so the cheese doesn’t stick to your hands.
  • After you make the football cheeseball, place it in the center of your charcuterie board and arrange your meats, cheeses, etc. around it until you’ve filled up the board.
  • We’ve offered suggestions for what to put on the board, but you’re welcome to swap out things we used for your favorite snacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does A Charcuterie Board Need To Be Refrigerated?

Because this charcuterie board contains a cheeseball, meat, and other perishable items, it does need to be refrigerated until you’re ready to serve it. Leftovers should also be covered and refrigerated — these items should not be left out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours.

Can I Make A Charcuterie Board Ahead Of Time?

Yes, charcuterie boards are a great make-ahead party appetizer because they can stay in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. You could even prepare this board the night before your event.

If preparing more than a few hours ahead of time, I recommend waiting to put the crackers and pretzels on the board. That way they don’t become soggy in the fridge.
